A one-car steel door is about $1,500. A repair is much cheaper: a spring job is about $270.
How the garage door replacement cost is calculated
Fixr (January 2025) publishes installed prices by material for a single (8 by 7 ft) and a double (16 by 7 ft) door. HomeAdvisor (June 2026) gives the average job at $1,231 and prices three-car doors. The calculator uses Fixr's material rows, scales the three-car door from HomeAdvisor's size ranges, and takes labor as 20% of the door price (Fixr's labor is about 18% of its totals, HomeAdvisor's 28%). Extras are separate lines, and your state's factors apply.

Worked example: two-car insulated steel
A two-car steel door is $2,100 typical. An insulated premium adds $400 (Fixr: insulated $700 to $2,300 installed against $400 to $1,800 uninsulated) and removing the old door about $120 (HomeAdvisor $50 to $200, Fixr $30 to $200). Total: $2,600. A new opener adds about $510 for the unit and labor (HomeAdvisor: $200 to $1,300), taking it to about $3,150. A wood two-car door with the same extras is about $4,500.
Garage door installation cost
Installation is included in the door price above. The labor part is $100 to $300 for a single door and $375 to $575 for a double (Fixr); HomeAdvisor's installers charge $200 to $500. Garage door repair cost
Choose Repair to price one fix (HomeAdvisor, average repair $265, normal range $155 to $379): springs about $270, cables $250, opener repair $300, sensor alignment $200, a damaged panel $630 and track about $50. DIY or a pro
Springs and cables are the danger. Torsion springs store a lot of energy and cables run at high tension; have a technician do those. Hanging a new sectional door yourself is possible with two people, but the springs are still the pro's job.
Permit
Rules vary by town. A like-for-like door is often simple, while a new or resized opening, or structural changes, usually needs a permit. Ask your building department.
